Change my listing from generic to my new brand
Hello all,
I have been selling my product at a loss, at high volumes the past 6 months to gain ranking and reviews. I still have >30k of product primarily under 3 listings. I'm a new seller and I've learned a lot the past 6 months, and recently I got a USPTO application through an Amazon recommended law firm and I've successfully gone through the brand registry process. I did this to use A* content to further enhance my listing.
My problem now is that from my contact with support and reading other similar posts, it seems I need to create a whole new ASIN under my brand. Is there a way to bypass this? None of my product has changed, no label, content, price, or anything about the product, and since day 1 it's been sold with my brand printed on it, but when I first listed it was just "Generic". Now all I want to do is list them under my new brand. It will be far too expensive for me to completely start growing a listing from scratch and refill inventory, and if I had to do that I don't know what to do with my existing inventory. Can I reclassify inventory as a new ASIN? I don't want to keep bleeding money selling existing inventory if it's not going to help my permanent listing since I have to create a new ASIN.
I can prove I own this brand from factory to box to distribution, any document I need to provide. My listing finally made it onto front page after 6 months of burning money with some reviews, and to do it all over I know will cost another tens of thousands. Is it possible that if I continue selling under Generic and I become big enough that some manual bypass can help me? I don't get why changing Generic to Brand is a banned action, I see many others who went through the whole process of paying lawyers to file application just to use A* content on their listing, but that's not even how it works? I am now making the terrible decision of either: (1) keep selling under Generic knowing I'm disadvantaged (2) put up another at least 50k of funding to grow a new ASIN
All I want is to make my "Brand: Generic" listing which I've spent so much time effort and money on to "Brand: <my new brand>", I really don't understand why this isn't allowed under policy. Every piece of my product that still sits in FBA warehouse is permanently stamped with my brand, I got the brand registry done, so why can't I make a simple listing change?
Thank you for your time.

Simple answer if you had bothered to check the Forum for this issue --
NO, it can't be done. PERIOD.
Here is some information from a month or so ago--
According to multiple posts from Amazon MODS it can't be done.
Start with this one from three weeks ago (as of 07/17/2023).
":What is the impact in enrolling in brand registry after listing your first product?"
In it @Sandy_Amazonstated quite clearly:
"Hello @bigbundytime
@C_W_Bt is correct that sellers will have to create new ASINs.
Please see the help page and look at the details under Policies for editing detail pages.
If you choose to re-brand a product you must create a new ASIN rather than update an existing ASIN. This is true even if the product is unbranded and does not change materially after the brand change. This includes adding a brand to a previously unbranded product. (emphasis added).
If you get lots of positive feedback on your generic listing, it could be damaging to delete and erase back to your trademarked ASIN, but this is a decision for you to make as you know your business and product the best.
If you have any additional questions please let me know.
Best,
Sandy"

Hello @Seller_7iIYVh4MLs1yf,
My name is Dougal from the Community Manager Team. Apologies for the delay in my response as I was out of the office and just returning this week. I would be happy to provide more specifics and the policy on Brand Names. Editing a brand name is addressed in both the Amazon Brand Name Policy (Scroll to the bottom of the FAQ section on the page, look for the question "I’m unable to edit the ASIN brand name to correct a typo, capitalization, or legal abbreviation showing incorrectly on the Detail page.") and Product detail page rules (addressed in the last bullet point of the "Policies for editing detail pages," section).
To paraphrase what I have linked above, any major Brand Name change requests are considered re-branding and will not be supported. To protect Customer trust and ensure catalog quality, we ask that you create a new ASIN for the new product. A major Brand Name change is considered anything beyond typo, capitalization, or legal abbreviation.
I also want to address your point that "Generic," is not a Brand Name. I do agree with you, but the policy is built around the Brand Name Attribute required when creating an ASIN and "Generic," although not literally a brand name is considered branded on Amazon.
Hope this helps clarify, please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Best, Dougal
