Hillbilly Elegy

Something happened last week that may end our business. Shortly after Donald Trump named J.D. Vance as his running mate, orders began to pour in for the latter's book Hillbilly Elegy at an unbelievable rate. We had one copy of this book which we mailed within a day and confirmed shipment just like we always do, yet orders continued to pour in. I decided to look at the inventory listing for that book to see if there was something amiss and to my horror discovered that the database said we had over 5000 copies of it (!). I immediately changed the number to zero and still orders kept coming in, so I deleted the entry for the book entirely and that did the trick, but not until we had received over 3000 orders which I have spent the last several days trying to cancel and/or request cancellation from the buyers, so now I'm getting messages from Amazon threatening deactivation of our account that we have had for 15 years. I know I did not enter a figure of 5000+ for that book and neither did my wife. There are no other entries within our inventory listing for more than two copies, mostly just one. We sell on average only four to six books per month. Has anyone else had a similar catastrophe involving this book?

You will have to ask Amazon to look at the history of changes made to the inventory levels.

They will (should) have that information but it will take more time than you want to think about.

The BIGGER issue is when you said this: "trying to cancel and/or request cancellation from the buyers"

Asking a buyer (in this case a couple thousand of them) to cancel an order to help you out is a really BIG violation on Amazon and no matter what Amazon finds for when/how the inventory got screwed up you may have buried your account by doing that.

You are going to need a miracle to survive this one.

If you have opened any cases provide a number so any MOD that happens to drop by can look it over to see if they can help.

Without a case number in the posts it wastes time for everyone. I no longer tag anyone if there is no case #.

They have to ask for it and then wait for a reply from the poster and then the poster has to wait again for the MOD to find the case, and then more waiting.…………....

I had a similar case in where I created a coupon for 50% off product, but it was the wring coupon, so I cancelled it and created another one for 50% off.

It took amazon like 24 hours to cancel, the first one, and so without my knowledge I was sellign an $80 items for free if they stacked the coupons, since this happened in the evening I did not relaize till the next morning we have sold 1300 of our FBA inventory and another 1200 FBM orders. the issue is that besides giving them away for free, i still had to pay amazon the FBA fee and 15% fee, so I was out like $50k just from the FBA orders which I could do nothing,

The FBM orders became my focus and so I canceled all of them. I called AH and explained the issue and thank g-d we were not deactivated.

I suggest you get in touch with AH and make sure they know that this was a one off and it wont happen again.
