I just opened up an old seller account I made a while ago and it's tied to my personal buyer account with old order history and personal purchases. I want to separate business from personal. Would closing this current seller account and opening a new one completely separate cause any problems with Amazon?

YES. You are allowed ONE seller account (but any number of BUYER accounts). The ONLY exception is if the seller sides do NOT sell the same product lines or anything closely related.
I have one seller account but multiple buyer accounts. Just start a new business BUYER account.
