Removing PO Boxes from Shipping Settings

Seems ridiculous that Amazon doesn't think that the USPS delivers to PO Boxes. The only option they give us is Amazon Shipping Ground. This has happened so many times that I finally decided to remove PO Boxes from acceptable addresses. Not fair to customers and not fair that we lose sales, but going offsite we lose the Amazon Shipping protection. How can such a gigantic, technical business be so lame?

That is really odd. I have never had Amazon not allow shipping by the USPS to a PO Box. Usually they only allow shipping to a PO Box with the USPS, even if the address has a physical address listed as well. What happens if you click the "See all options" button?

Hi @Seller_TmcUzqrd8iU7t,

Dominic from Amazon here, happy to try to help. We haven't seen this issue before but we will see if other Sellers are seeing this. You are correct that you do not have to use Buy Shipping. If there is an issue with this order please come back to this thread and tag me and I will make sure I will assist if needed.

Best,

Dominic

I suspect that Amazon knows that USPS delivers to USPS mailboxes. Even for a company as dysfunctional as Amazon, this one is just too simple to misunderstand.

My guess is that a PO box provides too many opportunities for scamming. ( How often have we read about the customer claiming that the item was not delivered, getting refunded, and then going to the PO and picking it up? )

Amazon just chose to eliminate the tool that many scammers use. From their point of view, this is better than eliminating customers.

To us, this seems stupid. But it fits Amazon's overall plans and perceptions. Customers are never wrong. Amazon is never wrong. If there is a problem with USPS boxes, then it must be the USPS that is wrong.

So they cut out the service that is at fault, allowing service to USPS boxes only by Amazon delivery.

Problem solved.

The issue probably has something to do with your preset delivery times. Amazon's algorithm doesn't think that the package is going to arrive by the expected delivery date if you use USPS (it probably will the algorithm is wrong all the time) So they are limited the available shipping methods. You can always purchase the shipping label off of Amazon. You won't be covered for an A2Z claim, but you get to use your preferred shipping method.

we’ve had a similar issue. We always used to ship US Postal Service to PO Box because FedEx and UPS doesn’t deliver there. Lately Amazon is only presenting us an option to use Amazon shipping to ship to a post office box. But when you look at it, it’s actually not even Amazon. It’s US Postal Service so it causes all kinds of headaches for Pick up because you try to arrange pick up in the Amazon carriers try to come and pick up the package US Postal Service are to pick up the package cause they’re sent the label. It’s completely absurd. Amazon literally doesn’t even have a handle on their own shipping system and Amazon shipping is a dumpster fire. It is a horrible experience and everyone involved in Amazon shipping is a moron.
