Brand Name Change

Hello Fellow Amazon Sellers,

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma and could really use your expertise.

Here's the situation:

Brand Approval: I initially tried listing my product under our brand, but Amazon didn't approve it right away. Note: Awaiting Brand Registry as well, should be any day now hopefully. The first three times it got declined, but thats a post for another time.

Placeholder ASIN: To proceed with shipping via Amazon Global Logistics, I had to create an ASIN. I used "Generic" as a placeholder brand.

Inventory Shipped: The inventory was delivered and is currently in Amazon's fulfillment center.

Brand Approved: Amazon finally approved our brand, but now they won't let me update the brand name on the existing ASIN.

Listing Suppressed: I've suppressed the listing to avoid any customer confusion, and no sales have been made under this ASIN.

Amazon's support team suggests creating a new ASIN for the approved brand name, which I'm willing to do. However, my main concern is the existing inventory.

Questions:

Is there a way to transfer the inventory from the old ASIN to the new one?

Has anyone successfully navigated a similar situation? If so, how did you resolve it?

I appreciate any advice or insights you can provide. Thank you!

Changing the brand name on the listing is has not been allowed once the listing has been created.

Policies for editing detail pages

  • You may only update detail pages to better or more accurately describe the product as originally listed. For example, permissible updates include additional details, clarifications, grammatical fixes, or removal of content that violates Amazon policy.
  • You must not use an existing listing for a new version of a product. This includes changes in color, size, material, features, and product name. Instead, create a new product detail page for each new version. For example, a manufacturer updates its streaming media player by adding a new remote control with four buttons instead of two. This product is materially different from the older version and it must be listed as a new ASIN.
  • If you choose to re-brand a product, please refer to Amazon Brand Name Policy page for minor Brand name changes. Any major Brand Name change requests are considered re-branding and will not be supported. To protect Customer trust and ensure catalog quality, we ask that you create a new ASIN for the new product.

In the past ... once a listing was created as Generic, it stayed Generic and a new listing had to be created for the Brand Name.

The choices for this have been ...

  1. Have the product sent back to you. Relabel it for the new ASIN and make any packaging changes that need to be including Brand Name and an update GS1 UPC code. Then send the product back to Amazon. (not fun and will cost but helps protect your brand)
  2. Sell out the product under the Generic ASIN and then send in new product that is packaged with the Brand Name for the new ASIN. You could have both listings selling at same time until the Generic runs out. Just know that other sellers can jump on the Generic listing and sell their product as Generic also ( this can create problems for your product ).
