Inbound placement options

As an Amazon seller, understanding your FBA inbound placement options helps you optimize your inventory distribution while managing costs. Here's what you need to know about the current placement service options and recent changes that may affect your business.

Current FBA Inbound Placement Options

When creating a shipping plan, you can choose from these placement options:

1. Minimal shipment splits: Send your inventory to the minimal number of inbound locations, typically a single location, for a fee. Amazon will determine optimal inventory distribution across the network. Note that fees may vary by location, with Western locations potentially carrying higher fees.

2. Amazon-optimized shipment splits: This no-fee option requires sending inventory to multiple inbound locations. To qualify, your shipments must include at least five identical cartons or pallets per item, with each containing the same quantity and item mix.

3. Partial shipment splits: Available only for large bulky-sized inventory, this option allows sending items to multiple locations (fewer than Amazon-optimized) for a reduced fee.

Important 2025 updates to know

  • Large bulky-size products now have lower inbound placement service fees, reduced by an average of $0.58 per unit for minimal shipment splits (went into effect January 15, 2025).
  • Through March 31, 2025, new parent ASINs that qualify for the FBA New Selection program are exempt from the inbound placement service fee for up to 100 inbounded units per new parent ASIN (for shipments created since December 1, 2024).
  • The partial shipment splits option is no longer be available for standard-size products in shipping plans created on or after February 20, 2025.

Please note: The availability of these options depends on several factors, including:

  • Product types and quantities in your shipping plan
  • Existing inventory levels across the network
  • Location of customer demand
  • Fulfillment center capacity
