New seller, item not available to be listed

So I am a new seller and have a book that I am looking to sell. It is from a major publisher, new and I am approved to sell books (which I applied for through the process of trying to list this book). Now everything on my account is set up and my account is 100% ready to go and I go to list these books and get the following message:

"You are not approved to list this product and we are not currently accepting applications.

Refurbished condition: You are not approved to list this product and we are not accepting applications at this time.

Sorry, the ability to create a listing for this item is restricted."

The item was not restricted just 2 or 3 days ago and is not against any of the amazon rules as far as I can tell. This book is listed from several sellers in new and used condition currently on Amazon and in my personal account I am able to purchase it from other sellers.

Anyone willing to tell me what I am doing wrong?

You have a basic Misunderstanding about selling on Amazon.

Amazon will allow a chimpanzee to list on here BUT that does NOT give you the right to sell anything. Amazon wants the FEES. The BRANDS want control.

The first question is -- Are you authorized IN WRITING by the the BRAND to sell their items on Amazon?

More and more brands have provided a "whitelist" of their approved sellers and if YOU are NOT on the list you will be stopped in your tracks and probably hit with an IP violation. Consider yourself lucky they stopped you BEFORE you got that far.

The second (and probably more important) question is -- Where are you sourcing your products? Are you buying direct from the brand or through an AUTHORIZED wholesale source?

There are a LOT of FAKE wholesalers out there ranging from places like Sam's Club, Costco. BJ's Wholesale and others to all those Gray market providers touted on TikTok, Twitter, YouTube and other places. AND there are places like Ali#$#$ that sell counterfeits and knockoffs.

Any of the guys mentioned have resulted in so many account suspensions that it is impossible to count the number.

When Amazon says in Seller U to use an Authorized Reseller they mean an AUTHORIZED (by the BRAND) Wholesale Distributor – NOT some random wholesale distributor that has “thousands of brands” in stock but is NOT authorized by the brand.

Was there a link to apply to sell?

That red herring "refurbished" comes up from time to time. Ignore that part of the message.

Unless this is a textbook (in which case it is probably a real block), it is just a faux-block.

Apply, you may be approved instantly, or you may have to take a quiz and be approved.

Then you have to wait -- usually several hours, or just text day. Then you can list.

This assumes no problems with you account.

If you have no selling history, you may not be approved.

And the above applies to selling used books.

Do not list books as New on Amazon unless you have invoices from the publisher or distributor.

Do not call a book New because it looks New.

You are not doing anything wrong. Amazon is exceptionally unwelcoming to new sellers stepping into traps. There has been a clear path from Amazon's side, to push used booksellers off the platform....I have been here 8 years and I can't list a freaking used book either...
