Shipping via USPS

I was about to ship an order and noticed that USPS was not an option. The buyer paid $5.00 for shipping and I have my shipping setting as USPS. However, I am not given the option to ship USPS but the options are AMAZON shipping (strange), UPS and FEDEX. Shipping cheapest is $10.75 via UPS. This is going to eat up my cost from the product. Why is this happening.

When you see no USPS options at all it is usually because the Amazon bot believes that USPS does not deliver to that address. The bot is often wrong. Just purchase shipping elsewhere (PirateShip, Stamps, etc.)

Did you agree to "automated shipping" when Amazon prompted you during the editing or creation of shipping templates?

If you did, Amazon will choose the carrier (regardless of your preferences) in order to "delight the customer" with whatever shipping promise Amazon displayed during checkout.

In certain cases, particularly on weekends, Amazon may force you to use expensive express options. These won't just obliterate your margin, sometimes the shipping cost is more than the checkout cost paid by the customer!

Delete or override any automated shipping templates. There is no benefit for sellers.

Hi @Seller_PBR32YK1Af57t,

Dominic from Amazon here, happy to try to help. @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6bl is correct. USPS is not being shown because Amazon doesn't believe it will be able to meet the delivery promise. You are always able to purchase shipping outside of the buy shipping tool if you would like that specific rate.

Best,

Dominic

This occasionally happens to us as well.

When this happens, we EXIT the Buy Shipping and reload the Orders page, and try reloading it again.

That USUALLY fixes the problem.

However, there are some addresses that are SO Rural that Amazon Buy Shipping does not offer USPS as a Delivery method, even if the Delivery address is a P.O. Box (which IS in a USPS Post Office). It makes no sense to me.

We recently had a order where the ONLY shipping method offered by Amazon was the NEW "Amazon Shipping Ground", and I would NEVER use this, as it clearly states that using it means the Seller forgoes "Delivery Confirmation" AND "Package Insurance".

When we realized that this was the ONLY option Amazon Buy Shipping was going to offer, I instead went onto USPS.COM and used my OWN account to ship via USPS GROUND ADVANTAGE, which is the normal method for this product.

I WAS able to successfully "Confirm" the Order on Amazon.

But knowing Amazon as I do, I shipped with "Signature Required for Delivery" JUST IN CASE they Buyer later Claimed INR so I could successfully appeal a potential A-Z Claim.

Hope this Helps...

I had one of these yesterday. No USPS options, double checked and the address isn't serviced by the USPS. Inexpensive item that only weighs a few ounces. Doh! I ended up just biting the bullet and shipping it by UPS Ground which wiped out most of the profit for the order. I guess it could have been worse, at least it wasn't in a Remote Surcharge Area. Those light-weight orders that are in a Remote Surcharge Area and also aren't serviced by the USPS are really the pits! '$30.00 shipping for a $8 item' in those cases.

Question for Dominic_Amazon

  • Why is Amazon allowing Letters in the address field.
  • This makes packages come back as non-deliverable (or) unverified
  • Buyers Need to enter their mailing address, billing address correctly.

Many second language speakers will put this in address field.

  • Casa 123 abc st
  • Home 123 abc st
  • ** why does Amazon accept basically anything a buyer puts in the address fields. If its not zip+4 it will usually be returned NSA, NSN.
  • (And why are we picking up the expense? -
  • Buyer are responsible for correct addresses, atleast. And some of these abbreviations are insane.. TWP, and so forth.

As for the question, mentioned above - Priority Flat rate would suffice. in many of these less than a 1LB scenerios... that is if the buyer put in a shippable address to begin with...

*** Second question ***

  • Why when an order is pending status (when/if it finally clears) is the clock to ship product not set to 1hr.
  • We have noticed in the last few weeks, orders in pending status are coming thru, but instead of it being a new order - it shows 48 or more hours, basically the same amount of time its been sitting in the oven baking... Anyone else noticing this?
