International shipping cost. Package going to Mexico, DHL charges me $51.00 but Amazon charges the customer $6.00 who pays the difference.

Hey there,

I came across your thread when looking for posts without interactions. International shipping is still an area I'm learning more about, but I figured I'd do a little research and post what I can here. The overview of shipping internationally is as follows:

  1. The seller chooses a carrier that can ship internationally.
  2. The seller ships the product and is the exporter of record.
  3. The carrier acts as the broker by default, according to the terms and conditions on the freight bill. The carrier will collect duties from the buyer upon delivery of the products.

Additionally I found these details on Mexico tax and regulatory considerations:

"Self-fulfilled products: If you ship your products to customers from outside Mexico, you will be listed as the IOR. This means you must pay destination duties, taxes, and customs-clearance fees before your product can be sold to customers on Amazon.com.mx."

I would assume you're selling FBM, but if not let me know.

This leads me to believe that sellers would be paying the difference in what you're seeing with shipping costs, though if other sellers have experience they can jump in here.

I did find some results when searching for intel on this topic, if you're curious about other seller's experience selling to Mexico.

I hope this helped, and best of luck!
