High price error..is this some sort of joke?

Why am i getting: The selling price was identified as a potential high pricing error. Please review the potential pricing error when we are selling $3 cheaper than other sells WITH free shipping?

Hi @Seller_G385MiNhe1QFy,

According to two relevant help pages - one about pricing errors (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G201686950) and one about Amazon's Fair Pricing Policy (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G5TUVJKZHUVMN77V) - the system considers many factors beyond just comparing your price and shipping with competitors.

These factors include:

  • Legal and compliance issues
  • Featured Offer (Buy Box) eligibility
  • Recent prices both on and off Amazon
  • Reference price accuracy
  • Overall buyer perception
  • Other pricing practices that might affect customer trust

I know it's frustrating when you're offering a better deal but still getting these warnings. Hopefully understanding these additional factors helps explain what you're seeing.

Best regards, Michael

One of the bugs in all of this is that often listings that have gone unedited for some time are exempted when the currently used "competitive price" changes. This allows high priced items to stay active.

Good Morning @Seller_G385MiNhe1QFy,

I wanted to stop by and share the feedback one of my colleagues @Stevie_Amazon wrote a few months ago to a seller in a similar situation:

Amazon's Marketplace Fair Pricing policy has been established in order to maintain attainable, low prices for all customers. Amazon regularly monitors the prices of items on our stores, including shipping costs, and compares them with other prices available to our customers.

Depending on the exact message you are receiving, you will need to take action in order to relist the impacted product.

There is also a pricing health page which shows a number of great options and best practices for you to utilize. This page shows:

  • All offers currently ineligible to be a Featured Offer on the product detail page because they are not priced competitively compared to other retailers outside of Amazon (the Competitive External Price) or they are priced significantly higher than recent prices observed in Amazon's store or outside. To become eligible for Featured Offer:
  • When offers are not competitive, consider setting your offer's total price (price + shipping) at or below the Competitive External Price.
  • When offers are priced higher than recent prices, consider setting your offer’s total price (price + shipping) in line with the reference prices.
  • Or, consider enrolling in Automate Pricing, which helps you stay price competitive by automatically adjusting your prices within the parameters you set in real time.
  • Offers currently eligible to be the Featured Offer and priced within 5% of the Featured Offer price. You can improve your chances of being the Featured Offer by considering setting your offer’s total price (price + shipping) so that it matches or is lower than the current Featured Offer price.

There is also a chance for you to automate pricing for items if need be.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the information provided above or share the CASE ID filed with support that is related to your pricing concerns so we may begin to investigate the issue. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Sincerely, Cooper_Amazon
