ISBN starting with 979 (GS 1 approved) is not valid?
Hi!
I'm having difficulty understanding what my error is.
I received a letter stating that my ISBN 979-8218168254 is not valid (tryong to add a new product/new listing/ I am the owner and the author)
The link that my agency provided to verify my information in the print catalog did not help me eather!
Even though my agency said that my ISBN supposed to work for Amazon listing:
"You can provide Amazon KDP this link to verify that the information you are providing them matches what we have with the Books in Print catalog: bookwire.com/book/USA/The-Inner-Child-Deck-9798218168254-CreatioMax-LLC-94156650
Amazon is still asking me to provide the correct GTIN.
Could you please confirm that someone has checked this link and tell me what exactly is incorrect with my ISBN?
Thanks a lot!

GTIN is not for books.
KDP is the Kindle Publishing (e-books). Is it your agency that supplied the KDP note you mention? Does your agency think you are trying to list an e-book? Otherwise KDP is nothing to do with it.
If Amazon's note to you wanted a GTIN, they are confused as well. It used to be fairly easy to add a new product page, but Amazon made it almost impossible about two years ago. They want you to just use the pages already in their catalog. If you are using a brand new ISBN you may have to open a case with seller "support" and hope a real person checks the Books in Print catalog.
Good luck.

GTIN covers several different standards; one of those is ISBN (but only the 13 digit version). So yes, there is a GTIN for books.
The 979 prefix is fairly new, and still not widely used. The last time I can recall running across a book that used it, Amazon would not accept the number; but looking it up elsewhere, it was not worth listing, so didn't pursue it any further. It would not surprise me if Amazon still doesn't recognize the 979 prefix as legitimate.
Note also that, while a 978 ISBN can be converted to a 10 digit version, the same is not true of a 13-digit ISBN beginning with 979.

Hey there @Seller_wxhxbwn91hMI6- thanks for bringing this topic to forums, and congrats on the book!
I did a little searching and found this past forums post that has some related solutions. Have you seen that post yet or confirmed with support that you are a publisher?
Also, if you have a Case ID open with support, I'd be happy to take a look from my end to see how we can best help at this juncture.
Thanks!
Danny
