Send to Amazon vs Carrier Central

Hello Everyone,

We have a new product we are launching and a new shipping partner. With our first two products, our supplier handles the DDP shipping with their own shipping agents. I create a "send to amazon" shipment and it gives me the 5-7 locations that our supplier will need to send the shipping cartons to, and also the warehouse FBA labels that they print and stick onto each shipping carton. They then provide me with individual tracking numbers (UPS or FedEx) that I enter into the sent to amazon system and its all good. This has worked great for 3 years.

With this new shipping agent for this new product, they are saying the way they ship is via "truck freight" delivery and there is no tracking number to put into the system. They sent me a screenshot of a sample order through Amazon Carrier Central and also a sample bill of lading. I am honestly unsure of what I am supposed to do here. With truck freight delivery, would this be considered to be LTL/FTL shipments? If so, I can't create LTL/FTL shipment in Send to Amazon it seems. So, once our supplier hands the inventory off to our shipping agent at the port in China...does the shipping agent handle everything else from there?

I followed the same steps as I have done with my other products and created a Small Parcel Delivery shipment in Amazon already, which is how I got the destinations to provide our new shipping agent for a shipping quote...but it doesn't seem like Send to Amazon is the right system? Am I correct in understanding that they (the shipping agent) must create a shipping appointment inside of the carrier central system for my product? If this is the case, how do I know what destinations Amazon wants the various shipping cartons to be delivered to?

I am a bit stuck here.

I'd be happy to jump in here and provide some context.

You're right to be cautious about this new situation. Truck freight delivery is indeed different from your previous small parcel shipments and is typically considered LTL (Less Than Truckload) or FTL (Full Truckload) shipping.

Shipping Method:

  • You're correct that truck freight would fall under LTL/FTL shipments, not Small Parcel Delivery.
  • You'll need to change your shipment type in Seller Central.

Creating LTL/FTL Shipments:

  • In Seller Central, go to "Inventory" > "Manage FBA Shipments"
  • Create a new shipment and select "Less than truckload (LTL)" or "Full truckload (FTL)" as the shipping method
  • This will give you different options more suitable for freight shipping

Carrier Central:

  • Yes, your shipping agent will need to use Amazon Carrier Central to schedule the delivery appointment
  • They'll need to be registered as an approved carrier in Amazon's system

Tracking:

  • Instead of individual package tracking numbers, you'll typically get a PRO number or BOL (Bill of Lading) number for the entire shipment
  • This is entered in Seller Central once you have it

Destinations:

  • Amazon will provide the destination(s) when you create the LTL/FTL shipment in Seller Central
  • These may differ from the small parcel destinations you initially received

Process:

  • Create LTL/FTL shipment in Seller Central
  • Provide shipment details to your supplier/shipping agent
  • They'll schedule delivery through Carrier Central
  • You'll receive PRO/BOL number to enter in Seller Central
  • Remember, your shipping agent should be familiar with Amazon's requirements for LTL/FTL deliveries. They'll need to follow specific guidelines for palletizing, labeling, and scheduling.

I'd recommend reaching out to Amazon Seller Support for additional guidance on converting your existing small parcel shipment to LTL/FTL if needed. They can also confirm the correct process for your specific situation.

I hope this helped clear things up!

Regards,
