Invalid Card? Charge Method Requirements

When you register as a seller, you will be prompted to enter a credit card that will accept international charges and that has a valid billing address located in an eligible country. Your credit card will be billed the monthly fee (if applicable) or USD 1 (excl. VAT) for purposes of validating the card. For more information, go to Registration requirements by country.

The following Credit Cards are accepted:

  • American Express
  • Diners Club
  • Discover
  • JCB
  • MasterCard
  • Visa

Note: I recommend always using a valid credit card although debit cards may be accepted in certain circumstances and meet requirements for initial charge, there are often additional features or limits associated with debit cards which will cause them to be invalid. To avoid running into verification issues and delays, I recommend using a credit card from the beginning of setup.

We verify your credit card based on the following requirements. Violating one or more of the requirements below will result in your card being denied by Amazon.

  • The number you entered should match the number on your credit card.
  • The billing address you entered should match the billing address on your credit card statement.
  • The CVV code you entered should match the code on your credit card.
  • The card expiration date should be at least 6 months from when you add the card.
  • The card holder’s name you entered should match the card holder’s name on your credit or debit card (in the Latin-script alphabet).
  • The card should not be a prepaid, virtual, or gift card.
  • The card should be chargeable in the currency of the Amazon store(s) for which the card is being provided.
  • The card should have adequate credit limit to pay for the charge.
  • If you were asked to enter a unique security code by your financial institution, the code you entered should match the code sent to the card holder via SMS, email, or token.

If your credit card has expired or has been declined, we will prompt you to enter new credit card information before you can access your seller account. You can add a new credit card or update an existing card. Any mismatch in your credit card information may result in the card being declined. Only the primary account owner can make changes related to payment information.

Complete the following steps to update the credit or debit card information in your seller account:

  1. Go to Settings, and click Account Info.
  2. From Payment Information, select Charge Methods.
  3. Click Replace Charge Method for the credit card you would like to replace, and select the store where you would like to assign a new charge method.
  4. Select an option to either Add a new credit card, or select a card that is already available in Seller Central. Enter the requested information exactly as it appears on your credit card statement.
