Buyer changed her mind and returned an order. Package was lost by carrier. Carrier only reimburses shipping. Should I refund?
So a buyer ordered a ~200$ item from me and she decided to return it.
She paid for the return shipping herself (this is a merchant fulfilled order).
The shipment was lost by the carrier and they confirmed it. However, since she didn't pay for insurance, they will only reimburse her shipping label.
Now, she's asking me who will reimburse her. Me or Amazon...
I don't think it should be me but I don't want to end up with a negative feedback either...
How would you guys deal with a situation like this?

If she didn't pay for insurance, she doesn't get a reimbursement. Neither you nor Amazon are required to reimburse something that isn't returned.

But I'm pretty sure she's going to be ultra mad...
That would be her problem, an expensive lesson for her to learn shipping uninsured.
Nope, not at all. It wouldn't meet the Amazon feedback removal requirements.

Unfortunately, there are going to be times where you will receive negative feedback unfairly even if you are 100% in the right. The seller seems to take the brunt of the abuse, particularly here on Amazon.
I believe most of the major carriers will reimburse the sender $100 as a means of recompense for losing the package, whether or not she purchased additional insurance. So, its not like she is out the entire amount of the item's worth.

It wasn't lost. She can scan it at the UPS store on a self scanner and walk out the door, go home and say its lost and keep the money and the item. It's a known scam.

I can't think of a domestic shipping service that has no insurance included. UPS, FedEx and USPS include $100 insurance, so your buyer should at least be able to file a claim for that amount. What shipping service did she use?

If you get bad review ask Amazon to remove it based on your info. If they won't, respond very politely that the item was never returned and thus you can't do a refund.

Who would be responsible if Amazon supplied the shipping label (at the seller's expense) and the item was lost in transit?

Next time don't let her use her own label, she should have submitted a return request where Amazon gives her the label and have her put as her reason" No longer need'.
That reason would then leave the label cost as her responsibility

Yeah...that scam... "Honest, I shipped it and it got lost. Give me my refund"
Sure, it may have actually been lost but either way, it is guaranteed Amazon is going to eventually refund her from your funds.
