Amazon forcing me to use UPS to ship, but I do not offer UPS

This keeps happening and I can't find a solution. Customer ordered, I made the handmade order and went to ship. The option to ship USPS (the ONLY one I offer) is not there. I can only ship through UPS for nearly $3 more. This item only costs $11.50. I don't have enough profit to eat the difference of $3.00, nor do I want to find and drive to a UPS shipping location. This is why I only put USPS as options for my orders.

I canceled the order as "shipping address not available" or whatever that options says. I also emailed my customer and told them USPS does not ship to their address and to please pick an alternate address when they reorder.

Today I received their reorder (with no reply to my message to them). Once again USPS does not ship to that address.

Why is Amazon letting this order go through when the address is not compliant with my chosen shipping company? They should have denied the order altogether. Now I have to cancel yet again. This makes no sense. Does anyone have a solution? I'm tempted to buy the label through Ship Station but then I won't be covered if the item doesn't get to my customer.

Amazon does not require customers to read messages from sellers. It's entirely possible that your customer didn't even see the message you sent.

When we run into this situation we buy shipping off-Amazon (like stamps dot com). If the address verification there says that it's not a valid USPS address, we may google the address and see if it's in a small town that may not have every home delivery. I've called the local post office and asked if they deliver. Some times, they will give me the PO Box number of the customer and I just ship there. We don't have this problem often.

Well it happened again just one week later only this time the only shipping company that would deliver to the customers house was Fed Ex at a whopping $12+. Mind you the 3 oz item ships via USPS for around $4.31. This is nuts. I would rather decline these orders, which is how this worked for years before Amazon started forcing us to use carriers we do not offer. We choose not to offer them for a reason. Why isn't that honored by Amazon?
