Tiff here from Amazon. I noticed you didn't have any replies yet on this topic, so I wanted to jump in and share some information. It looks like you're using the merchant fulfilled network option to ship products instead of FBA, correct?
You probably have experience with claims, appeals and returns already, but I want to share the Amazon guidance regarding your topic. If the refund is automatically granted, you do have options.
Manage seller-fulfilled returns
- Most items purchased on Amazon.com can be returned for a refund or replacement within 30 days of the estimated delivery date.
- Return authorization - Amazon automatically authorizes US return requests that fall within Amazon’s return policy, including items with seller-filed SKU exemptions from the Prepaid returns for seller-fulfilled orders.
- Wrong item returned by buyers - Sometimes buyers mistakenly return a different item than the one they purchased from you. If this happens, contact the buyer to do the following: 1) Let them know that they may have accidentally returned the wrong item. 2) Ask them if they would like you to return the item to them. 3) Inform them that they can return the correct item for a refund. If the buyer indicates that they would like the wrong item back, consider sending it back to them. If the buyer indicates that they received the wrong item initially, consider giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Reimbursement policy for Prepaid Return Labels (PRL) in the seller-fulfilled network
- You can file an appeal if Amazon authorized a return or refund on your behalf that you believe should not have been authorized.
- You may be eligible for reimbursement if a materially different item is returned to you and Amazon determines you were not at fault.
- To file a SAFE-T Claim, visit Manage SAFE-T Claims on Seller Central
