Incorrect Package Dimensions Leading to Higher Fees
Hello everyone,
I'm facing a significant issue with my product (Prayer Mat, ASIN: B0CM9TMHJ7) where the listed package dimensions on Amazon are incorrect, causing a substantial increase in my fees.
Listed Dimensions on Amazon:
Size: 15.86 X 14.37 X 1.42 inches
Weight: 1.191 pounds.
Actual Dimensions:
Size: 12.2 X 13.4 X 1.2 inches
Weight: 1.2 pounds.
Due to this discrepancy, my fulfillment fees have doubled from $5.37 to $10.75. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue through support (Contact IDs: 14742606571, 14801739151, 14862520561, 15116723411), including written and phone communications, and providing photographic evidence of the actual dimensions with a tape measure, the issue persists.
The packaging of the Prayer Mat might be contributing to the measurement error. It is folded several times and vacuum-sealed, resulting in soft, empty edges that could be inaccurately measured by automated systems.
I am appealing to the moderators and experienced sellers here for guidance and support. Could @Bryce_Amazon , @KJ_Amazon , @Danny_Amazon or anyone who has faced similar issues please advise on how to get Amazon to reevaluate the measurements? Any assistance or insight into further steps I can take would be greatly appreciated.

Can't YOU change these in your listing? YOU have to do this. Seller support doesn't have access to editing your listing.

Hi @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq,
Dominic from Amazon here, happy to help. Have you submitted a re-measurement request with the team?
Best,
Dominic

Hi @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq,
Thank you for this. I can see the pictures and understand the issue here. Loose packaging can impact this and it looks like that's the case.
The measurement sensors that capture dimensions in our fulfillment centers will evaluate packaging edge-to-edge, including loose polybag and protruding handles. To minimize the dimensions of deformable packaging, ensure that the packaging does not exhibit loose material by using methods such as tight-fitting or vacuum-sealed polybags, or taped flaps, so that the dimensions of the same item packages are as similar to each other as possible.
When possible, avoid the following items and packaging types, which cause the most common discrepancies:
- Soft items that bulge out of its box packaging
- Deformable or loose packaging, including plastic bags with excess material
- Packaging with movable parts, including handles that pop out, or floppy string handles
- Packaging that is close to the threshold between fulfillment-fee size tiers
- Packaged items that vary in edge-to-edge dimensions, such as one package with a lot of excess polybag, and another package with a tight-fitting polybag
Best,
Dominic

Hello @Dominic_Amazon,
Thank you for your detailed response and for reviewing the photos. Based on the images, the maximum dimensions of the product within its polybag are 13.97 x 12.8 x 1.2 inches, which is significantly smaller than the dimensions by Amazon 15.86 x 14.37 x 1.42 inches. Can you confirm if you see these sizes in the photos? They are in cm, but can easily be converted to inches. Do you agree that the dimensions in the photo do not match the Amazon dimensions?
This discrepancy is still puzzling, especially since the polybag edges are soft and flexible, not rigid, and wouldn't prevent close packing with other products.
Since you've seen the actual dimensions and understand the situation, could we possibly arrange for a manual re-measurement by a person? This way, we can ensure that the "empty edges" are not unfairly included in the dimensions, which currently doubles my fulfillment fees and consumes all profits.
I appreciate your help and am looking forward to resolving this issue effectively.

Hi @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq,
Appreciate the product dimensions are what they are, but the tool used for re-measurement doesn't just look at the product but includes the packaging as well.

Hello @Dominic_Amazon,
Thank you for your response. I understand that the re-measurement tool includes the packaging as well as the product. However, my main concern remains unaddressed: the dimensions captured in the photos, even when considering the packaging, are significantly smaller than those by Amazon (13.97 x 12.8 x 1.2 inches versus 15.86 x 14.37 x 1.42 inches). Could you please confirm whether you see these sizes in the photos and acknowledge whether they match or contradict Amazon's current dimensions?
While I appreciate the complexities of automated measurement systems, it would be beneficial to explore whether a manual review might align the recorded dimensions more closely with those observed in practice. Could we consider arranging for a manual re-measurement in this case?

Hi @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq,
If a remeasurement has already been done, which it looks like it has, there is nothing more I can do around this product. I can't confirm the dimensions vs the picture as I am not at the FC and conducting the remeasurement. Additionally that is just one unit of the product. I am assuming this unit was not the one that got pulled for measurement.
Best,
Dominic

Hello @Dominic_Amazon,
Thank you for your continued assistance. I understand the limitations of verifying dimensions remotely. However, given the significant impact of the current dimensions on my fees, it is critical for my business to ensure that the measurements are accurate. This situation is resulting in nearly double the fees, which is unsustainable for my business.
Do you have any advice and recommendations on how to fix this situation? Not to avoid it in the future, but to fix it now in order to return a larger amount of money spent on paying the incorrect doubled fees. How else can I change the product package dimensions in my case?

Hello @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq. I understand that you have submitted multiple requests for remeasurement but those did not have the result you were looking for.
I also see that @Dominic_Amazon provided you with some reasons why the fulfillment center measurements may be different from your own measurements.
Understanding item package weight and dimensions
Please check the above help page for details on remeasurement requests, and how to see if you have reached your limit. You may also want to consider removing that inventory and reviewing the packaging.

Hello @KJ_Amazon,
Thank you for your continued assistance. I understand the reasons provided by @Dominic_Amazon regarding why the fulfillment center measurements might differ from my own. However, the impact of the current dimensions on my fees is substantial, resulting in nearly double the charges, which is unsustainable for my business.
Removing the inventory and reviewing the packaging are not viable options in this case, as they would incur even higher costs than the excessive fees I am currently facing. Given this, I urgently need to resolve the measurement discrepancy.
Do you have any advice and recommendations on how to fix this situation now? Not to avoid it in the future, but to correct it currently to reclaim the substantial amount of money spent on paying the incorrect doubled fees. How else can I change the product package dimensions in my case?

Hello @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq. I understand that removing that inventory and revising the packaging are not viable options for you right now.
In that case I recommend checking if you have remeasurement request options available for that ASIN. If so, you can request a remeasurement.
Please note the following guidance on those measurements:
To replicate potential machine measurements, take a single item package, with the item inside, as it would be received by a customer. On a flat surface, fully extend loose packaging material, such as polybag flaps and package handles, to capture the maximum item package dimensions. Measure the item package’s longest edge as its length, its second longest edge as its width, and its shortest edge as its height.

Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq
Hello @KJ_Amazon,
Thank you for your response and for understanding the constraints regarding revising the packaging or removing inventory. I have followed the guidance provided for measuring the item package, ensuring that every part of the packaging, such as polybag flaps and handles, are fully extended to capture the maximum dimensions. I have attached three photos of the product measured with a ruler in centimeters, easily convertible to inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
Each product from the entire batch is folded and packaged in exactly the same way as shown in these photos; therefore, there cannot be any differences between them. Despite this consistency, the maximum dimensions recorded are 13.97 x 12.8 x 1.2 inches, which are significantly smaller than those recorded by Amazon’s system. There seems to be a persistent error in how Amazon's measurements are being recorded for this ASIN, as these sizes do not align with the dimensions captured by Amazon.

Hello @Seller_Yt4hwhet5QGEq. I understand that your measurements are different than those being recorded by the fulfillment centers.
Your options are to request a remeasurement of the items in the fulfillment center, or have the inventory removed for inspection and possible repackaging.
